Above all, I am highly motivated, very adaptable, and dedicated to continuous learning. I would be able to contribute toward the success of your team by being an asset with both skills in communication in English and Korean as well as problem-solving abilities and help narrow any possible communication gap to work in a cross-cultural environment.Q31. How do Korean particles like ‘이/가’ and ‘을/를’ function in sentence building?
Ans. Other Korean particles include 이/가, which are subject markers, and 을/를, which are object markers. 이/가 represents the subject in the sentence-this is who or what performs the action 을/를 has to do with the object-this is who or what receives the action. Consider the following sentence: “저는 밥을 먹어요” (“I eat rice”). Here, 저는 is the subject and 밥을 is the object. Know these particles to form the right structure and meaning for a sentence in Korean.Q32. Describe the meaning and cultural significance of the Korean holiday ‘설날 (Seollal)’?
Ans. This is one of the most frequently asked Korean language interview questions among other holidays, Korea has Seollal, or the Korean Lunar New Year. It falls on the first day of the year through the lunar calendar when families traditionally gather to pay respects to their ancestors in rituals like ancestral rites called 차례. It’s also a time for traditional dressing (한복) and traditional games. The holiday focuses on the family, respect for elders, and heritage.Q33. How would you respond if you were not able to comprehend the needs of a Korean client?
Ans. If I could not get what was requested from a client, I would say “다시 한 번 말씀해 주시겠어요?” which basically means “Could you please say that again?” Whatever the case I would stay calm and respectful so that the client will understand what to do. Then, if possible, I would paraphrase back to them their request in simpler words to make sure I understood.Q34. Identify the difference between Korean descriptive and action verbs and describe how such differences impact the formation of a sentence.
Ans. Forming adjectives Korean adjectives describe the state of something, just like English adjectives. Korean verbs that indicate action are forms of the verb, which all carry a meaning. Examples of adjectives are descriptive verbs such as 예쁘다 (to be pretty) which describe nouns. Action verbs, such as 먹다 (to eat), describe actions. Korean sentences with descriptive verbs don’t require a linking verb; whereas in English, one would use “to be”.Q35. Describe a situation where you had to adapt to using Korean fast, officially or informally.
Ans. In a professional environment, I had to switch gears instantly since the client started speaking Korean again instead of English. I instantly changed my level of speech to 존댓말 (polite speech) and could, for example, use formal phrases like “말씀해 주셔서 감사합니다” which means, “Thanks for your words.” In informal situations, however, I actually use 반말 (not so-polite speech) with my friends, so my focus should be on relaxing my tone and using relatively plain vocabulary.Q36. What best describes the differences between casual, polite, and formal speech (반말, 존댓말, and 격신효체) when speaking in Korean?
Ans. 반말 can be used among friends and family members, or towards people younger than you. Very informal, as you can imagine. 존댓말 is used in most social situations, where respect is required, commonly between coworkers or strangers. Always ends in -요. The most formal one: 격식체. It’s often used for more formal writing or within very formal situations. Usually, it ends in -네요. Be aware of your context to be able to use the right level of speech.Q37. What do you think is most challenging for learners when learning Korean vocabulary, and how can learners better memorize new words?
Ans. The most difficult point while learning Korean vocabulary is remembering the nuances of words that may have similar meanings but differ in the context they are being used. To study and to learn both have to do with learning a subject, but still, in usage, they are quite different. I use spaced repetition apps to remember new words, adding new vocabulary to conversations as often as I can.Q38. Translate the following sentence into Korean: “I am interested in learning more about Korean culture and traditions.”
Ans. “I am interested in learning more about Korean culture and traditions” correlates to: “I am interested in learning more about Korean culture and traditions”.Q39. How can you enhance the listening competency of the given spoken Korean in real-time?
Ans. To further enhance my listening skills, I have made it a point to focus on being as much of a Korean media creature as possible, watching dramas and following the news with an ear for picking up words rather than letting myself actually worry about listening to everything that comes out of everyone’s mouth. I listen to podcasts and converse with native speakers. Whenever I make a mistake, I politely ask them to clarify what they said. Then I make an effort to decode the meaning from the context. Real-time practice converses increase the speed, which actually results in greater accuracy.Q40. Literal translation of the Korean proverb ‘가재는 게 편이라 (Crawfish sides with the crab).?
‘Ans. This Korean proverb basically translates that people often like to stick with those who are in the same league as them. They hence support those who come from the same background or have the same interests. This is a very natural human thing to do – to associate with like-minded people. In an interview, you can hence use this proverb to show your cultural connection or discuss teamwork.Tips to Crack Korean Language Interview
